An interview with Ptolemy Mann

Very interesting insight into the work of Ptolemy Mann and how she got to where she is today

Some of Ptolemy Mann's stunning woven work, I just love her use of colour and the painted effect that is created across the warp due to the ikat dye methods she uses prior to weaving.

Japanese silk weaving Yuki-tsumugi

This is an unbelievably beautiful process that is almost  passed our western comprehension of fast fashion.  This exquisite fabric is made from silk filament that has been tied and dyed (similar to ikat dying) before being handwoven on a loom which hasn't changed in mechanism for the last 1500years. This fabric will take a month for an experienced artisan weaver to produce 1 roll of fabric and complicated designs can take up to a year to produce from start to finish.  This is well worth a watch, really stunning!
